FAQs

I’m a new student/old student/parent/friend who hasn’t been getting lessons with you this year, can i still have a lesson? Yes!

What if I need to cancel/change times? Please give a weeks’ notice for cancelled lessons, or more than 48hrs notice if you are changing times. Lessons cancelled/changed with less notice will be charged, as it usually means I’m unable to fill the spot I’ve put aside for you.

What if I already paid for lessons for term 1? You’re entitled to online lessons in to cover all the ones you’ve already paid for! Please bare in mind that the amount of time you’re entitled to varies by group size - solo students 30mins per lesson, trios 10min each, etc. For groups of 4 or more, I’m happy to round it up a bit for ease of scheduling.

Can we have a group lesson online? It is a little harder but definitely possible, we just can’t play at the same time because of the delay in audio transmission. Nevertheless it can be fun for the kids to get to see each other in these isolated times!

Do lessons continue through school holidays? Absolutely, if you’d like - I’ve kept my calendar open for bookings for the next few months so you can grab a regular time each week, or mix it up. If you’ve already paid for lessons, these will finish up where the school term usually would have ended, but if you’d like to continue with some fun music over the holidays it will just be billed as part of the term 2 invoice.

I’m experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19, can we continue with lessons? This is a tough time for many of us (me included) and I completely understand. I’m keen for all my students’ musical education to continue, so I’m very happy to discuss delayed payments or payment plans on a case by case basis.

What you’ll need for online lessons:

  • a laptop, tablet or phone with a decent internet connection

  • something to play on (even if it’s a makeshift instrument like a cardboard box!)

  • your sticks and music folder

  • you may find it easier to communicate if you have headphones rather than using the device’s speaker

How to set up for online lessons

  • choose a spot you can have your time uninterrupted by pets/siblings/vacuuming etc

  • position your device in a place where the camera will capture your face and the instrument you’re playing on - this may be further away than you’d expect. The position is one where you can still clearly see the screen.

  • check your tech! Using Zoom for web lessons is quite straightforward - when you book, you’ll receive a link to click, and you can click it just before the lesson time when you’re ready to go. Although not necessary, you may find it easier to download the Zoom app and set it up ahead of time, You can do that here.

  • check all the positions of gear and people are safe and accessible before the lesson - is anything going to fall when bumped? are power/headphone cables out of the way? do you have enough space to play your instrument?
