Isolation Resources
A number of companies are making their worksheets or software available for free during this unprecedented lockdown.
Find my picks of the bunch, and I’ll add more as we go:
Music Theory:
The Australian Music Examinations Board - AMEB - have made their online Music Theory courses available for free until June 2020.
Music Notation:
German company Forte have made their ‘home’ version free for 180 days, so you can get writing. They’ve also made their premium upgrade cheaper too.
Recording software:
Both Apple’s Logic and Ableton’s LIVE have an extended 90-day free trial going.
Steinberg have created a free ‘stay at home elements’ collection that includes recording, notation and instrument bundles.
Roland have an iOS ‘beat-making’ app for electronic drum fun, now free on the app store.
Software Instruments
Synthesizer makers Korg and Moog have both made mobile versions of their apps free.
College Courses
Probably a little bit more mature in aim than most of our students would enjoy, but world renowned Berklee College has a load of music-focused MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) available starting at varying points, on a range of topics from music theory to recording, production and beyond. Great for older students or parents!
